Loud Park
Just got back from the first day of Loud Park. You may know that Manowar cancelled their headline spot due to a fire that delayed their gear’s arrival. However, the big story of the day was how unnecessary Manowar is.

Dear Zig and Arse:
I need some urgent tech advice. My 160GB iPod is now full. I don’t use any streaming services and hate new formats. The only solution I’ve come up with is to get a MacBook Air (256GB) and use it as an iPod. Is there any other way I can keep my entire iTunes library mobile?
Last week, Zig posted info on my Facebook page about Katherine Ludwig, the face and voice of Metal Maniacs, who is now battling Non-Hodgkin lymphoma. I was shocked and saddened (but not entirely surprised) to find out that, on her own, she didn’t have all the resources she needed for her fight.
A lot of hay has been made this week about the 10-year-old guitarist shredding some Slayer. And while I don’t think Kerry King should give up his search for a new co-guitarist, Audrey’s skills are pretty formidable.
But that’s just burying the lede. Pay attention to her 6-year-old sister Kate, doing a Shatneresque interpretive screamfest all the while.
The public relations flack still buried somewhere inside me couldn’t help but come up with talking points to help President-Elect Joko Widodo navigate through the hardest ‘gate of them all: “metalgate.”
It’s come to my attention that the president of Indonesia is a metalhead, a self-avowed fan of Napalm Death and Megadeth. Talk about power metal!
This is a bit of a bummer: TesseracT just announced that their current vocalist, the excellent Ashe O’Hara, is leaving the band. In his place will be their old also-excellent Daniel Tompkins, sure, but I felt like Ashe brought more to the table in terms of musicality and range (based as much on the two albums as on their live performances).
Last night, I went to see Meshuggah live, on their minitour celebrating 25 years of music (with Between The Buried And Me as support). The bands were both in fine form, but it was an odd night, insofar as the band’s conceit of playing a set of material largely in chronological order led to pacing issues.
Bethesda Games is on the verge of releasing Wolfenstein: The New Order; it’s already out for PC, but I’m a Mac and Xbox 360 kind of guy, so I have to wait.
And while I wait, here’s a track from the game’s soundtrack… by Fredrik Thordendal. Achtung!
