Metallica72 Seasons

✦✦✧✧ This is undeniably Metallica. It’s also pretty boring. Also also, it’s about twice as long as it needs to be. Not only does it have too many songs, and not only are the songs overlong, but even at the riff level, they tend to repeat too many times. You know you’re in trouble when you’re thinking about the Skip button about 20 seconds into a track.

Re: Re: Blackened 2020

Cool. Just got a break from the endless childcare/online university education so I could watch it. Damn, we’re all getting old! Lars is starting to look like Harry Dean Stanton.

I really enjoyed catching up with you guys and watching that doc. Can we do it again sometime soon? How about a concert video?

Re: Blackened 2020

I agree that it’s not that bad reimagined. (I would also contend, never has Lars looked more ridiculous than his squinting overperformance in what is now a power ballad.) All in all, I dig it!

Also, not to blow your minds, but: Robert Trujillo is now the bassist who has been in Metallica the longest, making him a part of the band’s de facto mainstay lineup.

MetallicaHardwired… to Self Destruct

✦✦✧✧ Proving that they are still a band that marches to the beat of their own badly mixed drums, Metallica have filled this (their tenth studio album) with riffs and aggression “inspired” by their thrashier past. This is a welcome departure from the overarching theme of the band’s last few albums: ill-conceived experiments in audio engineering gone wrong.

Holy crap

How can this be?! It sounds like thrash… but it’s from Hardrockica!

New (double) album comes out in November. If the rest of the album sounds like this, I’ll actually be looking forward to seeing Metallica in the next Arsies.

Metal = modern art

I’m heading out of town tonight, on a red eye for a series of meetings this week. This is my first flight out of San Francisco in a few months. Since I was last here, someone got the bright idea of setting up a mini exhibit that speaks to the region’s important cultural art movements.
