★★★☆ Mighty Anthrax serve up an excellent sampling of modern thrash, which manages to come across as fresh and invigorated while still sounding very much like Anthrax. New lead guitarist and ex-Shads founder Jon Donais ably fills Rob Caggiano’s shoes (and then some), while Scott and Charlie and Frank are peerless in their performances. And Joey Belladonna generally sounds strong as ever, especially on the standout track “Blood Eagle Wings.” Also, the band try a slightly different tack with some of their more radio-friendly moments, and they’re not awful (which is often the best thing you can say about this kind of thing). This is easily one of Anthrax’s best efforts since the landmark “Persistence Of Time.”
