Tools of the Trade E.P.

Estimated reading time: 2 minute(s)

This is a nice little nugget, presumably recorded during the Necroticism sessions given the consistent sound. Like what was to be found on the Heartwork E.P., the title track of this one is as good or better than some of the album tracks, but something about it (maybe the somewhat comical lists in the verses) kept it from quite fitting with the whole of the album. What I find particularly interesting about it is that they decided to rerecord two older songs (one from RoP, another from an Earache compilation from the same time frame) just as they were about to completely abandon that old style altogether. Was it a way to have some fun, or a fond look back before diving into new territory?
