✦✦✦✧ Finally, SFTP find a way to channel their RATM tendencies into a sound that feels as modern and fresh as it does explosive. Ironically, the band apparently had to also draw inspiration from Norma Jean into to complete the formula, but it works! Break some shit, fuckers!

Stray From The Path — Only Death Is Real

✦✦✧✧ Good news: Stray From The Path no longer sound just like a RATM clone! Bad news: they sound a little more like Limp Bizkit now. At least Drew York’s lyrical message is moderately less juvenile than that of Mr. Durst. And the band’s energy is undeniable. All in all, an enjoyable if nostalgic way to spend half an hour.

Stray From The Path — Subliminal Criminals

★★☆☆ SFTP get a lot of shit for sounding like little more than RATM v2 (and not undeservedly). That said, their latest album has them drawing less from that source, and instead introducing more of a vintage Mudvayne sound. I wouldn’t have thought of Rage and Mudvayne as promising wellsprings for a modern band, but you know what?
