✦✦✦✧ While not as experimental or envelope-pushing as previous albums, this is still a tasty slab of grindish thrashy metalcore. Half the many riffs here are groovy as hell, while the other half are just punishing.

✦✦✦✧ Once again, Unearth bust out of their metalcore pigeonhole and bring us an expansive, reimagining of the genre. Do I detect hints of Acacia Strain, Meshuggah, and Machine Head between the breakdowns? Headnoddin’ good times, brah!

★★★☆ Calling this metalcore is a little misleading. Sure, the trappings are there… but this album has as much in common with new-style thrash or some variants of prog metal as anything else (I’m looking at you, Meshuggah, BTBAM, and Exmortus). Whatever you call it, “Watchers Of Rule” is fast, heavy, and unrelenting.
