✦✦✦✧ This is Converge (with Chelsea Wolfe and Stephen Brodsky) at their most brooding and contemplative. Not sure if that’s what anyone wanted from them, but that’s what they did with their pandemic; how about you? Shit talking aside, I really like this album, but if you think you’re getting “Axe To Fall II” here, you’re going to have a bad time. See the rest here
✦✧✧✧ This one squeaks through with one star, barely. How did Converge pull off this major disappointment? By releasing a single, 31-minute track, that is literally just noisy soundscaping. Nice prank, Converge. Next time, give us some songs. See the rest here
✦✦✦✧ This reminds me of the attenuated excellence on DEP’s “One Of Us Is The Killer.” The energy and rawness is still here, but this is a somewhat more evolved Converge. Somewhat more experimental with their riffs and motifs. Somewhat more expansive. And somewhat more reserved emotionally (not the worst thing in the world, but noticeable coming from the guys that gave us the juggernaut “Axe To Fall”). See the rest here
